The Direct Support Professional is responsible to assist, support and supervise people, to ensure their daily needs are met and the individual’s person plan is being respected
Serve as a positive role model for staff and clients.
Provide individual emotional, physical, personal, social and vocational support to clients in a respectful and caring manner. Individuals may be in wheelchairs and use walkers. Individuals may require physical support when transferring or toileting. Wheelchairs and walkers will require lifting in and out of vehicles on occasion.
Promote independence and encourage decision-making through recognition and respect of each client’s interest and choices.
Conflict resolution skills
Aptitude towards managing crisis
De-escalating aggressive behavior
Monitor equipment and supplies so that repairs are made or reported
Maintain safe and organized environment
Transport clients to and from activities and home in a safe and careful manner.
Perform administrative duties including completing communication books/logs, incident reports and maintaining appropriate lines of communication with management and staff.
Maintain effective communication with the coordinator, coworkers and clients.
Knowledge:
Open to learning about intellectual disabilities
ASL preferred
Certifications such as First-aid, CPR, NVCI, Orientation to the Vulnerable Persons Act
Clean Driver’s Abstract
Attend workshops, team meetings, in service training, and seminars as required or other related production and support training
